The BOF is intended for decarburizing the hot metal using pure oxygen gas with types of top-blown?bottom-blown and side-blown.  As a result of this high productivity, the BOF replaced the open hearth furnace, which was a much slower process. Have a capacity of 150-350tons, can decarburize 200 tons of hot metal from 4.3% C to 0.04% C during 20 minutes.

Electric arc furnace uses electricity as fuel source, and utilizes the arc high temperatures produced by electrode to heat and melt the furnace charge. It is widely using in production of normal steel, high quality carbon steel, various alloy steel, stainless, various ferroalloys etc. The use of EAFs allows steel to be made from a 100% scrap metal feedstock. This greatly reduces the energy required to make steel when compared with primary steelmaking from ores.
